I'm home user amd dont have speed network. But I want to use ALL power of Gentoo linux. Therefore, I think that it's very good idea is create ISO images of DISTFILES directory content. I'm not desire to have a long "beard" of RPG packge dependencis! The substance of RPG and network orented installtion is discredit Gentoo main idea. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Currently all distfiles together need approximately 6GB or something. Additionally having 8 iso-images (that's what would be needed to keep these 6GB) would need another 6GB on the mirrors. We simply don't have the capacity to support this. Also, such an iso-image would be outdated before it is even completely created - both the ebuild-tree and the distfiles tree are very fast moving. You should however be able to create these iso-images yourself, by simply downloading the distfiles/ directory on the mirror-servers and creating the images yourself. Maybe you can do this at the place where you would download the iso-images if we would provide them on the mirrors. cc'ing infra
Our entire distfiles repository takes up over 25GB of space. We do not have the space on our mirrors to duplicate this data in ISO format.
Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux". I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers, this is the only reasonable way to do this.
