In the sdl-net and sdl-gfx latest ebuild the dependancy field requires >=libsdl-1.2.4 . Doesn't install dependancy and crashes with "use=sdl" in make.conf . Not sure if this is an error in the emerge script - perhaps "DEPEND=media-libs/libsdl" instead of specific ? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Uninstall libsdl sdl-net, etc 2. Attempt to install sdl-net - emerge sdl-net Actual Results: Bombs out on sdl dependancy Expected Results: Should have continued emerge by getting dependancy Portage 2.0.50-r1 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.3.2, glibc-2.3.2-r9, 2.4.20-gentoo- r7) ================================================================= System uname: 2.4.20-gentoo-r7 i686 AMD Athlon(TM) XP 1800+ Gentoo Base System version 1.4.3.13 Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.58-r1 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.3 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="gcc3" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3. 1/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/shar e/config /var/bind /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs ccache sandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.au.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X alsa apm arts avi berkdb bonobo cdr crypt cups curl directfb dvd encode esd foomaticdb gdbm gif gnome gpm gtk gtk2 gtkhtml guile imlib jpeg kde ldap libg++ libwww mad mikmod mmx motif mozilla mpeg mysql ncurses nls oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl php4 png python qt quicktime readline samba sasl sdl slang spell ssl svga tcltk tcpd truetype usb wxwindows x86 xml xml2 xmms xv zlib"
You didn't include the error output so it's hard to say why it's failing. Can you attach the full output from the emerge attempt as a text/plain please. I also notice you're running an older version of portage. Current portage version at the moment is 2.0.50-r3
