Occasionally, cinnamon (gnome-extra/cinnamon-1.6.7-r1) will freak out and seems to restart. When this happens, hexchat loses its tray icon, but continues to run. Skype/pidgin, on the other hand, keep their icon and I am able to continue where I left off at. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Run hexchat, restart cinnamon. Actual Results: Hexchat tray icon disappears. Expected Results: Hexchat still has a tray icon. try with 2.9.5 (which is stable) and reopen if it still applies
This has been happening since xchat and hasn't been fixed in hexchat to date. It also happens in KDE as well if you restart `plasma-desktop`, the tray icon does not reattach to the systray bar.
is this reported upstream?
Yes it was reported and I was following it some months ago (see $URL) altough it seems to have been marked as fixed (at least for 2.9.5) but the issue persists (at least with cinnamon and KDE) as we have confirmed here. Btw, I just bumped them on that issue.
I am not sure what I can do here. If there is a fix, reopen and attach. I usually keep track of upstream progress anyway, so backporting something is not a problem.
Bug #583918 might be related.
