Description Rick Farina (Zero_Chaos) gentoo-dev 2013-05-26 05:20:35 UTC
Check for yourself

emerge --info | grep prefix
IUSE_IMPLICIT="prefix"

this is happening on all profiles because it was added to base/make.defaults:

1.86 (axs 27-Sep-12): IUSE_IMPLICIT="prefix"

It looks like this has little effect but it seems to be messing up --depclean for some users. For instance, xorg-server is pretty much always depped like "!prefix xorg-server" and a bunch of my users are claiming they are randomly losing xorg-server on depclean.

Full disclosure, this report is coming in from people with pentoo profiles, but the issue appears to be caused by the gentoo base profile and could be affecting every user. I'm still not sure why this doesn't affect my personal system, but it is randomly hitting some (but not all) of my users.

Please let me know what other information you need.
Comment 1 Rick Farina (Zero_Chaos) gentoo-dev 2013-05-26 05:23:25 UTC
I'm told in -portage that this should have no effect of setting the use flag (which I figured) but it's the only thing that says prefix in emerge --info so I'm a bit confused why xorg-server keeps getting depcleaned.... thoughts?
Comment 2 Rick Farina (Zero_Chaos) gentoo-dev 2013-05-26 05:36:35 UTC
Is it supposed to be required that xorg-server is in the world file, or should it be pulled in as a dep of wm's like xfce and e?

Still odd that I'm getting this issue on some users but not others, but I have people willing to test available so please let me know if anything is needed.
Comment 3 Rick Farina (Zero_Chaos) gentoo-dev 2013-05-26 05:41:36 UTC
Traced down the xorg-server DEPEND to virtualx.eclass but it seems it's not listed as an RDEPEND... that just feels wrong to me.

Anyway, I'm going to shut up, go to sleep, and let someone who knows what they are talking about comment.
Comment 4 jospezial 2014-03-19 11:07:12 UTC
Now this hit me too on my 2 PCs.
I had to add it now to world file.
I wonder about for what I have set X and xorg use flags. Should there not be enough dependencies on a full desktop-system with LXDE and KDE ?

Is this something for the wayland migrate process?

No, the X server and the desktop environment do not necessarily need to run on the same system.

Packages such as gnome-base/gdm, x11-misc/sddm, x11-wm/mutter RDEPEND on xorg-server.
