Some legal dispute with Hasbro has lead to a halt of the project development. I am not sure if we could face legal consequences if we distribute it. But it seems the letters from Hasbro were never published, so it's hard to say. http://cockatrice.de/ http://forum.cockatrice.de/index.php?topic=2129.0
Does the distfile contain any material that is copyrighted or trademarked by Hasbro, like images of Magic cards, or other artwork?
Former upstream dev says that he cannot give a definite answer to this question, only that all accusations made by Hasbro's lawyers were wrong until now.
Reassigning to trustees.

That said, I haven't actually tried to trace the origin of every image file in the package. I couldn't actually get it to work (needs a path to some card DB that I couldn't find docs on). However, my sense is that it depends on either separately-distributed or download-on-demand card data, derived from some Hasboro source. Whether or not this is allowable under their terms of use I do not know - I saw mentions of these terms online but I couldn't find a link on their website to their official terms. However, I think this package needs an upstream if we really want to keep it around. Legally the stuff distributed with Gentoo does appear to be GPL2, but users of the software should probably be warned to comply with terms of service, assuming they can find any.
hm, since it allows to set up a server, it could theoretically still be used
Upstream for this package looks dead; punting this back to the package maintainer; no further actions for trustees.

I think this is probably obsolete because now ebuilds in the tree are relying on cockatrice from https://github.com/Cockatrice/Cockatrice/releases, that is still developed. Then, I guess that, if there are any license issues still, probably the new upstream could handle them finally :/
