Description Rob 2004-04-06 09:44:31 UTC
I've been getting a bad digest problem for cronbase for the past 2 weeks now. Here is my emerge -vup world output:

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating world dependencies ...done!
[ebuild U ] sys-apps/cronbase-0.2.1-r3 [0.2.1-r2] [empty/missing/bad digest]
[ebuild U ] net-mail/squirrelmail-1.4.2-r3 [1.4.2-r1] +crypt +ldap +ssl -virus-scan 2,332 kB
[ebuild N ] sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.4.25 -build 31,488 kB
[ebuild U ] sys-apps/vixie-cron-3.0.1-r4 [3.0.1-r3] -(selinux) 49 kB
[ebuild UD] dev-db/phpmyadmin-2.5.6_rc1 [2.5.6] 0 kB
[ebuild U ] app-admin/metalog-0.8_pre20031130 [0.7-r1] 39 kB

I check the directory notice the digest is 0 bytes:

rae files # pwd
/usr/portage/sys-apps/cronbase/files
rae files # ll
total 16
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Mar 26 13:38 .
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Mar 29 13:40 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2859 May 13 2002 README
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Jan 31 2003 digest-cronbase-0.2.1-r2
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Nov 18 22:31 digest-cronbase-0.2.1-r3
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1951 Nov 18 22:39 run-crons

I tried deleting the files and resyncing but still got the same problem.

The last server I synced with is crow.gentoo.org.

it's fine actually -- there's no files for it to digest, as cronbase installs something out of the files/ subdirectory. You should see something similar for superadduser (in which case the superadduser script what gets installed is in files/)

Ok, as a user, the message makes it look like there is a serious problem with the portage tree. I'd rather this message ([empty/missing/bad digest]) not be displayed if there is no files to digest.
