Over the past three months, the 3.8 has took its time to maturize and today (12 May 2013) 3.8.13 marks the EOL release of this branch. There are also barely any bugs filed against it, and those that are filed do not block stabilization. I delay CC-ing the arch teams for 3 days to check whether anything broke, to catch duplicates and if needed to keep track of any issues that arise. So, once CC-ed, please test and stabilize =sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-3.8.13.
Just want to add to this request. Have been using the 3.8 branch on my system since it was available. never encountered any issues mind you i'm only 1 user and don't go looking for issues but i second this request. The current stable kernel in the tree is kinda old and is EOL. I use the stable branch on my wifes system to avoid any breackage.
Bug #469854 is regarding a privilege escalation that allows local unprivileged users to increase their privileges, I've looked this up [1] and this has been fixed in 3.8.9. So, if we stabilize 3.8.13 then we can then throw the affected 3.7.10-r1 out of the tree. Therefore I'm blocking the security bug. amd64 stable
Thank you for quick testing.
Stable for HPPA.
ppc stable
Current stable sys-cluster/drbd-8.3.13 does not work with kernel-3.8 Please, stabilize newer sys-cluster/drbd - https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=463144
They can see the other bug, just await further stabilization; it's queued.
arm stable
Is there anything holding up stabilization on the other architectures? Increased importance, especially since we block other bugs; please stabilize.
alpha/s390/sh/sparc, having some issues with >=3.8 on ia64, need to investigate it
Anything in specific holding up ppc64? (In reply to Raúl Porcel from comment #12) > alpha/s390/sh/sparc, having some issues with >=3.8 on ia64, need to > investigate it Any debugging information on ia64?
