Description Mr. Borje Holmberg 2004-04-06 05:49:25 UTC
Epiphany 1.2.2 crashes each time I try to edit Preferences. "Epiphany appears to have crashed or been killed the last time it was run. You can recover the opened tabs and windows."

When I either choose "Don't Recover or Recover", Epiphany starts and operates properly.

But, if I choose to edit Preferences, I get: "The Application "epiphany-bin" has quit unexpectedly. You can inform the developers of what happened to help them fix it. Or you can restart the application right now."

And when I choose "Restart Application", I get: "Epiphany can't be used now, due to an unexpected error from Bonobo when attempting to locate the automation object."

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Click on Epiphany
2. Click on Don't Recover or Recover
3. Edit Preferences

Actual Results:
"The Application "epiphany-bin" has quit unexpectedly. You can inform the
developers of what happened to help them fix it. Or you can restart the
application right now."

"Epiphany can't be used now, due to an unexpected error from Bonobo when
attempting to locate the automation object."

Expected Results:
Let me edit the Preferences, as fonts etc.

1) Make conf:

CFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium4 -fomit-frame-pointer"
CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu"
USE="accessibility acpi autofs cjk dvd evo expat faad fam flac freetype \
     gimpprint gnomedb gstreamer gtkhtml imagemagick jack java javascript \
     jikes moznocompose moznoirc moznomail mozxmlterm mpeg4 msn ruby sdk \
     tiff timidity unicode xchattext xine xvid -apm -arts -gpm -kde -qt"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86"
PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/bmg-gnome-current"

2) Locale settings in /etc/env.d/02locale:
LANG=en_US
LC_CTYPE=sv_SE
LC_NUMERIC=sv_SE
LC_TIME=en_US
LC_MONETARY=sv_SE
LC_ADDRESS=sv_SE
LC_COLLATE=sv_SE
LC_NAME=sv_SE
LC_PAPER=sv_SE
LC_NUMERIC=sv_SE
LC_MEASUREMENT=sv_SE
LC_TELEPHONE=sv_SE
LC_MESSAGES=en_US
LC_IDENTIFICATION=sv_SE
LC_ALL=

3) There is no problem with mozilla or Mozilla Firefox. No crashes whatsoever.

4) Galeon crashes frequently, though, when viewing pictures from the web.

Comment 2 Mr. Borje Holmberg 2004-04-06 06:10:57 UTC
1) I have reemerged Epiphany
2) I have reemerged Mozilla and Epiphany
3) I have reemerged Mozilla and Epiphany and Galeon
4) I have unmerged Epiphany and reemerged
5) I have reemerged Epiphany according to /usr/portage/www-net/epiphany with all the dependencies...
6) I have unmerged Epiphany and manually removed all references to Epiphany.
7) emerge -uD world has put Epiphany back

dunno really.. i see you have been using bmg.. that really voids your warranty. If you can reproduce it on a completely clean system we could have look.
Comment 4 Mr. Borje Holmberg 2004-04-06 12:04:09 UTC
bmg is just for evolution 1.5.5 as I can see it.

What do you mean by a completely clean system?

Hope you don't mean I have to reinstall gentoo. But, of course, what would you not do... when it comes to linux :-)

Is it, by the way, possible to install gnome-2.6 on a stable system? I don't feel comfortable with ~x86. Somebody suggested that I need this for gnome-2.6.

Do you by any chance have mathematica installed? If so, remove the Mathematica3mb.ttf file from /usr/share/fonts
Comment 6 Mr. Borje Holmberg 2004-04-06 16:02:51 UTC
Let's close this bug. I am already reinstalling gentoo - this time as stable. Hope I still can install gnome-2.6.

I don't know if I had mathematica - I never installed it any way. Just installed my own fonts in /usr/share/fonts/own. It used to work before gnome-2.6.

Just now I'm on the verge of stage 1.

Thanx and sorry.

reopen if you can reproduce the problem
