Description prower 2004-04-05 16:37:12 UTC
I'm not sure if these two events are related, but since it happened directly after I emerged the latest version of KDevelop in the (stable) portion of Portage, I thought I'd mention it. Basically, I ran emerge kdevelop, everything seemed to have been built properly; however, once it was finished and I attempted to run other programs (including Portage again), it was complaining about practically every library imaginable being missing. I tried rebooting the computer but XFree86 wouldn't even start, again complaining about missing libraries. Finally someone in an IRC channel instructed me to run ldconfig, and everything was fine again. I'm not used to having to do this myself, so I assumed there might be some sort of problem with the KDevelop ebuild; please correct me if I'm wrong or missed something, and if there is any further information available, please let me know.

I'm sorry, allow me to elaborate on this -- apparently I emerged a couple of things afterwards, so KDevelop may not have been responsible :/ I checked /var/log/emerge.log, and here are the last few things that I emerged before I started noticing problems:

dclib
dcgui-qt

After these were done, the problems seemed to begin. At first I was worried that I may have inadvertently run emerge -twice-, as I had emerged kdevelop in a detached screen session. However, after investigating I was able to determine that emerged had finished and I had logged out of the screen account long before I started on the other emerges.

After attempting to find a way of recreating this problem several times, I've been unable to do so...might just have been a temporary hiccup or something like that, as I've reinstalled all of the above packages without any visible problems. Feel free to close this, if it occurs again I'll make a note :>

can't recreate it here - sounds like a fluke.
