Solution is an upgrade to 1.8.1 which is not aviable in portage tree. So this bug is rather for "documenting" the actual non-working ebuild. Should be closed as soon as a version bump is done.
Upstream constantly moves the source location of their tar balls whenever they bump.....I've had conversations with them and they are considering a more friendly approach...but yes, this generally means that there are at least brief periods where the makemkv ebuilds fail.
1.8.0 should be fixed...upstream just moved source url slightly. 1.8.1 bump is also in for testing.
