Created attachment 347008 [details] build log There is only one version of gnuplot-4.6.3 in the tree.
gnuplot doesn't depend on libpng directly, but lddtree shows that libgd pulls in libpng, so try to re-emerge media-libs/gd or run revdep-rebuild.
revdep-rebuild did not find any missing libraries. When re-emerging gnuplot today, it was pulling in a new version of gegl and then the installation was successful.
