On my laptop (ATOM N270 CPU, XFCE environment) Qt Assistant hogs the CPU, becoming unresponsive, when is started from the xfce terminal emulator with: assistant -enableRemoteControl The same behaviour happens each time Qt Assistant is started from Qt Designer or Qt Linguist. Deleting the Qt Assistant configuration files and the search index does not help. Rebuilding qthelp with different flags does not help. Instead, starting Qt Assistant from the terminal, WITHOUT the enableRemoteControl option, works as expected. I tried to submit a Qt 5 version of this patch but gave up fighting with gerrit.
I can no longer reproduce this with 4.8.6. Please reopen if it persists for you.
