Description Michael Mol 2013-04-20 03:02:07 UTC
In section 6.b of the handbook, there is a subsection titled "Unpacking a Portage Snapshot". Ths subsection doesn't even list the tar command to unpack, much less the command to retrieve the tarball. Instead, it has the user create /usr/portage, and run emerge-webrsync.

If the user is expected to unpack a tarball, then a set of instructions for downloading the portage snapshot and unpacking it should be provided. (As was done previously.)

If the user is expected to use webrsync, the section should be retitled, and the line "The contents of this snapshot will be extracted to /usr/portage." should probably be stricken. Also, the "mkdir /usr/portage" step is unnecessary.

If the user is supposed to make a choice between these two, then the two approaches should be described separately in different subsections.

Hi Michael

Indeed; I've updated the title to be "Installing a Portage Snapshot". This change should show up on the site in an hour or so.

Thanks for reporting!

Also the other suggestions (removal of mkdir and the paragraph) are done now.
