This package would need a version bump, and a maintainer to look after it. Upstream, which happens to be ArchLinux, have switched to systemd since. So I'm not actually sure how compatible this package anymore is, when used with OpenRC. http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-956360-highlight-.html I've mailed gentoo-dev mailing list and asked for a maintainer, but nobody was intrested. Time to let it go, then.
Current version is 0.13.0, the version in Portage is 0.9.2 http://www.archlinux.org/packages/core/any/mkinitcpio/

But I had an issue with the lvmetad, which is used in this version to activate lvm volumes. I basically reverted to 0.12.0 lvm hook to get lvm activated, which doesn't use the metad. I could give it another test. The ebuild is here: http://openrc4arch.site40.net/pool/gentoo/sys-kernel/mkinitcpio/ In essence, I already maintain it, but outside portage.
gone, converting to new package request
