I found the solution to this at http://breakmygentoo.net/archives/000120.html and it seems to work fine. The error "Could not find or run the base seession script. Will try the GNOME failsafe session for you" and then gnome goes into failsafe mode. To fix this copy /usr/portage/gnome-base/gdm/files/2.4.4/Xsession to /etc/X11/gdm I'm going to guess this is just a slight omission in the ebuild. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
i dunno what you are on about, this already happens and has been in the Gentoo ebuild all the time.
Well, when I upgraded to gnome 2.6 rc5 this error was occuring.
well, if you can reproduce it i would be interested how, cause i really can't see from the ebuild why it would happen. The fact that it is mentioned on bmg makes me think it has to do with their stuff and not ours.
I'll take a look at it when I get home As for the BMG reference, that was where I found the solution, I'm using the main portage ebuilds.
Actually ignore that, I did have a gdm version in my local portage. Sorry for the confusion.
