Description Graeme Humphries 2004-03-31 19:02:42 UTC
I'm attempting to install gnome-2.6 using 'ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge gnome' (after having unmasked all the gnome package masks). However, when it gets to metacity, the configure dies in the middle with the following error:

checking Xcomposite >= 1.0... yes
Building with CompositeExt
checking for gtk+-2.0 >= 2.2.0 pango >= 1.2.0 gconf-2.0 >= 1.2.0 libstartup-notification-1.0 >= 0.4 xcomposite >= 1.0 xfixes xrender xdamage... Package xdamage was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `xdamage.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'xdamage' found

configure: error: Library requirements (gtk+-2.0 >= 2.2.0 pango >= 1.2.0 gconf-2.0 >= 1.2.0 libstartup-notification-1.0 >= 0.4 xcomposite >= 1.0 xfixes xrender xdamage) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.

Now, checking the PKG_CONFIG_PATH variable, I see the following:
PKG_CONFIG_PATH="/opt/fdo/lib/pkgconfig:/usr/X11R6/lib/pkgconfig"

Now, my copy of the freedesktop.org server doesn't have the xdamage extension, and on my system, /usr/X11R6/lib/pkgconfig doesn't exist. I tried removing the FDO xserver and re-emerging the xfree86 server, with no change in results.

I imagine something got messed up by having the FDO xserver installed, but I'll be damned if I know what it is or how to fix it. :(

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

And here's my emerge info:

Heh, sure, right after making a bug report I track it down. I just needed to edit out all FDO references from /etc/env.d/11x11, and then it configured fine. Good old alpha software wrecking havoc. ;)
