Description Olivier Crete (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-03-31 15:40:34 UTC
just copying over the gst-plugins-oss works.. A relatively recent alsa-libs dependency probably need to be added. This is required to get the volume applet and gnome-volume-control to work in gnome 2.6 as they use gstreamer if one is using alsa...

and while I'm at it.. it should probably be added as a dep to gnome-base/gnome with the alsa use flag.... Otherwise users will complain that the volume applet is broken
Comment 2 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-04-01 10:49:06 UTC
alsa plugin is known not functional for quite a few setups, i'm not happy about putting it in.

It certainly shouldn't be a gnome meta dep. The volume applet works well with oss or any sink with mixer.
Comment 3 Olivier Crete (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-04-01 14:05:35 UTC
The volume applet & gnome-volume-control did NOT find any device on my system without the alsa plugin. I'm using kernel 2.6 too.. I have oss emulation and it worked with gnome 2.4..
