Since the LDFLAGS are respected here, seems more likely that your distro is causing this issue and not the ebuild/build system.

If you can reproduce this with a Gentoo system or can point out the exact line(s) in the build system causing this, feel free to reopen the bug with the needed details.
Comment 2 Anton Bolshakov 2013-04-02 22:12:08 UTC
Add the following lines to your make.conf file:

# Adding -Wl,--hash-style=gnu to default LDFLAGS for linux/amd64 dev profile
# This will help developers track packages, that don't respect LDFLAGS, down
# more effectively
LDFLAGS="${LDFLAGS} -Wl,--hash-style=gnu"

#Adding -frecord-gcc-switches to help track down packages which don't respect *FLAGS
#should probably leave a note in /etc/portage/make.conf about keeping this when override
CFLAGS="${CFLAGS} -frecord-gcc-switches"
CXXFLAGS="${CXXFLAGS} -frecord-gcc-switches"
FFLAGS="${FFLAGS} -frecord-gcc-switches"
FCFLAGS="${FCFLAGS} -frecord-gcc-switches"

I know, how this detection works and it still works for me, so unless you provide me with the requested details, please leave this bug closed.

build.log

I'm not sure that understand you.

The default Gentoo profile do not include these additional *FLAGS variable and that's the reason why you don't see the warning. Have you tried to *add* them to your make.conf and compile again?..

I'm attaching build.log file for you to verify.

As you can see from my "emerge -info" output the LDFLAGS set to "-Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed -Wl,--hash-style=gnu".

However, autoconfig scripts generate the following settings:

Compilation............: make (or gmake)
  CPPFLAGS.............:
  CFLAGS...............: -march=core2 -mtune=generic -O2 -pipe
  LDFLAGS..............:

The src/Makefile do not inherit these settings and simply set it to:
LDFLAGS =

Ok, and one more important note. The USE flag must be set to following values:

media-libs/emotion-1.7.4  USE="gstreamer* nls -doc -static-libs -xine"

It does not appear with the default flags.

As i said, provide enough details to reproduce the issue and it will be fixed. And since this bug only happened with gstreamer backend enabled, that was the needed detail.

Fix is now in 1.7.4-r1, should be on your local rsync mirror in a few hours.
Comment 7 Anton Bolshakov 2013-04-04 00:06:45 UTC
To be fair, you (as a Gentoo dev) had enough information for the investigation after my initial commitment.

/usr/lib64/emotion/gstreamer.so is a first sign. You could have checked that you don't even have that file. USE flags in my emerge info output clearly shows that that backend enabled.

Your bad attitude of closing a bug with "it works for me" status while in the middle of conversation is not acceptable.

Reported to the upstream:
http://trac.enlightenment.org/e/ticket/2326

Let's hope we won't need the patch in the next version.

Thanks.
