After installing the new oracle-instantclient-basic (and sqlplus) /usr/lib/oracle has the permissions drwx--S--- making it inaccessible to most users. N.B. I've also created an /etc/oracle directory to store tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora and then an /etc/evn.d file to point TNS_ADMIN at this directory. Don't know if that would be of wide enough interest to make it into the default set-up. Chris Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
I was going to set to work on this but I can't seem to download the .rpm file from OTN. Are you able to?
No, just get a question mark from: http://download-uk.oracle.com/otn/linux/instantclient/oracle-instantclient-basic-10.1.0.2-1.i386.rpm I've posted a message on the Oracle forum and will watch for a reply.
Yep that's what I'm getting.
It's to do with cookies. I usual use Mozilla, but if I fire up Opera and allow cookies not from the originating web site I can download the files. Still can't get it working with Mozilla though!
Checked in a new version (_p1) into portage. Making use of proper portage tools so permissions are correctly set (755). Sorry for the long delay, but those .rpms weren't available for a while from Oracle.
