B-Man has expressed his interest on becoming a Gentoo Developer. He is a networking (routing and switching) guy by trade so has an interest to help out the net-* herds and has shown to improve some ebuilds, he is also very willing to learn more about ebuild writing and related Gentoo Developer activities. Some of these herds are short on people, so I think he will be an useful addition to some of these teams. Besides networking, B-Man is also working with AT member ago to do AT testing and if I understood correctly he is well through his quiz there. I think that his experience in this area will benefit him as a Gentoo Developer and the other way around. I will try to assist him in this area, where possible. We just had an extended talk on IRC after exchanging two mails; it was nice talking to him (same continent and timezone), and I will be his mentor.
Tom, thank you for opening my developer bug and taking the initiative in mentoring me. I look forward to contributing back to Gentoo and finding my niche within the community.

Tom, afaik, to be a mentor, you will be there at least from six months. ago@woodpecker ~ $ perl_ldap -s tomwij | grep Join gentooJoin: 2013/02/06

Oops, sorry, I wasn't aware of that and was still planning to read that link; I thought you would have stopped me earlier on chat or in mail, thanks for mentioning this as I clearly missed out on it. Okay, up to B-Man if he can wait another ~4 months (unless it is possible to make a special arrangement) during which I can mentor at a slower rate or whether he wants to look for a different mentor. In any case, I'm up for keeping him busy until either of these moments...

Training him for 4 months would make the final recruitment session easier for us as he would have the appropriate ebuild experience to answer all the questions. Either way given the backlog we have it is unlikely for us to pick him in the next 2 months or more.
I think that sounds like a very reasonable timeline to ensure I am prepared to become a Developer. Thank you all for the support and I look forward to working with you over the coming months.
Please re-open this bug when you are ready.
Request bug be re-opened. I have also asked idella4 (Ian Delaney) to be my mentor as we have worked together in the past and our timezones are within one hour now. Tom, thank you for the great mentoring and I look forward to working with you in the future.
Aaron now has a couple of new ebuilds in portage, added by me, with him as proxy maintainer. New learning took place in the usual way. One was submitted by another user as a new dep a gns3- version. His diligence towards tracking pertinent info for the quizzes is exemplary and shows marked improvement. He has submitted the first ebuild quiz.txt to the recruiters alias. He is receptive and now with time on his side is well on track in equipping himself well as a neophyte dev. He should be ready for review inside a week or 2
All quizzes (ebuild and end-quiz) have been submitted to recruiters@gentoo.org

Please process my retirement, thanks! No two weeks required unless you are obligated to do so.

b-man is coming back! I'll be the mentor. Please restart the recruitment process as far as that's needed!
(In reply to Andreas K. Hüttel from comment #31) > b-man is coming back! I'll be the mentor. Please restart the recruitment > process as far as that's needed! Thanks, Andreas! As mentioned, I would like to become active again. My new work is affording me time to work on Gentoo. This was not anticipated hence my retirement.

Aaron has asked again for membership to the Gentoo Security Team. As the lead I have forwarded his Email to the security team for objections. Pending the replies from the active security team members. We would like to have Aaron back as a "Developer without Gentoo Git Commit access" or as known in the past "Staff position". This will be independent of the full developer role that he is asking for.

90% of the Security Team has responded positively. Can we please proceed in enabling Email / Bugzilla / etc. This is for Security team (Developer without Commit Access).
Recruiters: can you please process the staff application. I would like for you to call for Infra to start the process. (Mainly so I can put on my Infra hat, and do some of the work before I go on vacation.)

It is not on recruiters it is up to him. Please do not judge us without information.

We had a tentative plan to meet on IRC, but given the holiday here in the states I have been offline. Amy is taking care of me well and we will do the final reviews soon.
