There is an error in this ebuild!!! It tries to download a file named rhythmbox-0.6.10.tar.bz2 the good file is rhythmbox-0.6.10.tar.gz
Good ebuild Herbie Hopkins. Thanks. 3 issues with Rhythmbox. Rhythmbox music library database must be rebuilt after I upgraded from 0.6.1. - rm -rf ~/.gnome2/rhythmbox - Right click 'Library', 'Add to library...' Rhythmbox doesn't work with the alsa sink. (media-plugins/gst-plugins-alsa-0.8.0) A dialog containing "The Application "rhythmbox" has quit unexpectedly." is displayed after an attempt to play song. However, Rhythmbox does work with the esd sink. (media-plugins/gst-plugins-esd-0.8.0) Use 'gstreamer-properties' to change the sink. However, Rhythmbox does _not_ work when 'Sounds for events' is enabled. (gnome-sound-preoperties -> General tab -> 'Sounds for events'). A dialog box is displayed with the following: (notice 'are are') "Rhythmbox does not currently work if GNOME sound events are are enabled and esdsink is in use."
Craig, before I add this into portage, I want to see if I can get the problems you bring up addressed... most likely the DB issue will just be some information / warning to the user, but I'm concerned about the alsa thing... what version of alsa and gst-alsa do you have? Were these issues present with the current version in portage?
Jeremy, I have: - media-libs/alsa-lib-1.0.3b-r2 - media-plugins/gst-plugins-alsa-0.8.0 - kernel-2.6.5-rc with alsa support (not a module) These issues were not present in the current portage version (rhythmbox-0.6.1-r1) as it uses gstreamer-0.6.4, and gstreamer-0.6.4 does not have an alsa sink in portage. I was using gst-plugins-oss-0.6.4 and rhythmbox-0.6.1-r1 worked fine.
does oss (alsa wrapper support) work in 0.6.10?
Jeremy, Yes, Rhythmbox-0.6.10 works well with gst-plugins-oss-0.8.0. It works well with and without sound events turned on. (desktop preferences -> sound -> sounds for events)
FYI, rhythmbox-0.7.2 (ebuild courtesy of http://breakmygentoo.net/ ) works fine with the alsa sink. (gst-plugins-alsa-0.8.0)
Comment on attachment 28448 [details] proposed ebuild I didn't find the rhythmbox-0.7.2 ebuild. Please post it here. Also, please post ebuilds as text/plain
rhythmbox-0.7.2 is a development version, gentoo only carries the stable trees (0.6.x). More information at: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46684 and http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43372
if the development version is stable and fixes showstopper bugs that are in the "stable" version, then we'll put it in. Could youu point me to that 0.7 ebuild.
