Description Mark Dominik Bürkle 2013-03-24 18:44:29 UTC
emerging xf86-video-intel-2.19.0 fails with a compile error:

/var/tmp/portage/x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.19.0/work/xf86-video-intel-2.19.0/uxa/uxa.c:421:2: warning: passing argument 1 of 'pScreen->CloseScreen' makes pointer from integer without a cast [enabled by default]
/var/tmp/portage/x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.19.0/work/xf86-video-intel-2.19.0/uxa/uxa.c:421:2: note: expected 'ScreenPtr' but argument is of type 'int'
/var/tmp/portage/x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.19.0/work/xf86-video-intel-2.19.0/uxa/uxa.c:421:2: error: too many arguments to function 'pScreen->CloseScreen'

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge --oneshot --verbose xf86-video-intel

I have tried with gentoo-sources-3.8.4 and -3.7.10.

First, I tried 3.8.4 and xf86-video-intel without sna in package.use;
I also tried 3.7.10 and xf86-video-intel with use= -sna -glamor.

Log files are from 3.8.4 and use= -sna -glamor. Seems to make no difference.
Actual Results:
compile fails

Expected Results:
compile and install

Comment 2 Chí-Thanh Christopher Nguyễn gentoo-dev 2013-03-24 19:00:29 UTC
This is not related to the kernel, but likely due to xorg-server incompatibility.

Please upgrade to newer xf86-video-intel. If you are running such old version because of ati-drivers and hybrid graphics, see bug 430000 comment 16.

all newer versions are MASKED but I will try with unmasking 2.21.4...

2.20.13 is stable, maybe you masked it locally.

Thanks Chi-Thanh Christopher, that's what it was (which I saw then myself, too), and thanks for the hint on Bug#430000 Comment 16, which allowed me to run xf86-video-intel-2.20.13 with kernel gentoo-sources-3.8.4 and ati-drivers-13.3_beta2.

I'll add Xorg-Logfiles for xf86-video-intel-2.21.3 and -2.21.4 in combination with both gentoo-sources-3.7.10 and -3.8.4 with ati-drivers-13.3_beta2, just to have my attempts documented.
IIRC, 2.21.3 and 2.21.4 defaulted to USE="-sna -glamor", but they don't work with ati-drivers-13.3_beta2.

As my console driver (? i915 ?) is giving me a black screen, I don't have ttys to move Logfiles around and to update the display drivers. I used an old Debian installation to do this with chroot... argh... any hints on i915 and lcd backlight steering?

Kind regards,
mdb

sry - didn't want to reopen the bug. Marking as closed/fixed.
Comment 11 Denis M. (Phr33d0m) 2013-08-02 01:25:49 UTC
Changing back to WONTFIX as per chithanh's initial resolution. 'FIXED' here might lead to confusion, as the bug has not been fixed.
