UMPlayer or Universal Media Player: http://www.umplayer.com/ A modern and better front end than SMPlayer.
where are the source tarballs of the sources?

Also if you check the skins out: http://www.umplayer.com/skins/ they should match up with pretty much any desktop environment at the click of menu option.

For what I can see I can only make a tar of the last svn trunk. Where is e.g. umplayer-0.95.tar.$something ?
I don't think any versioned tarballs are available, just a snapshot tarball from SF's VCS... not very ebuild friendly. What worries me more is that the last source change was 14 months ago, I wonder if you can really consider this better or more modern than smplayer.

I'll find out some answers from the horses mouth when I can get through. I know there's an updated version available somewhere but I can't find it / get through. If you can leave this open till I get some answers be appreciated. Thanks.
smplayer itself seems to have some files for this, see for instance http://sourceforge.net/projects/smplayer/files/UMPlayer/0.98.2/
Looks like I was misinformed and development has indeed stalled, which is a shame. Thanks to Tom Wij for pointing the skins pack out, I didn't realise you just dump the umplayer themes into usr/share/smplayer/themes. Works well enough to give you extra options.
Development is discontinued, some of fixes was incorporated in smplayer and smplayer2. Reopen if something changes. Closing as WONTFIX now.
