Description Patrick Lauer gentoo-dev 2013-03-19 07:24:12 UTC
apache crashes on startup:

Mar 19 09:47:13 localhost kernel: apache2[12326]: segfault at f ip 00007fa7a38b6d96 sp 00007fff4df05580 error 6 in libpthread-2.15.so[7fa7a38ac000+18000]
Mar 19 09:55:10 localhost kernel: apache2[26025]: segfault at f ip 00007f194adf1d96 sp 00007fff01c7ae20 error 6 in libpthread-2.15.so[7f194ade7000+18000]

This happens if apc.shm_size = 512M is added to /etc/php/apache2-php5.3/php.ini
The default value of 32MB allows it to work

 # emerge -pv pecl-apc php apache

3.1.13 (~arch version) has the same braindamage.

Setting to any value above 32MB causes a segfault.
Comment 2 Ole Markus With (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-03-19 08:41:08 UTC
APC related bugs are a bit over my abilities to fix, but generally, I have more luck with making apc behave when using file-backed mmap. Compile apc with mmap enabled and set something like apc.mmap_file_mask=/tmp/apc.XXXXXX
Comment 3 Patrick Lauer gentoo-dev 2013-03-20 09:18:22 UTC
That "fixes" it, thanks for the pointer. Still bad that it doesn't care about errors and kills apache :\
Comment 4 Tomáš Mózes 2013-05-30 14:23:19 UTC
Have you modified kernel.shmmax? By default, it is set to 32MB. I have successfully raised the APC cache size to 256MB after setting up shmmax properly.

Be aware that APC 3.1.13 , PHP 5.4 (fpm) and Apache 2.4.4 don't work nice together. We have observed lot's of segfaults. The (temporary) solution was to build APC from trunk. We are looking forward replacing APC with memcache+zendopcache.
