Description Decibels 2004-03-29 13:38:28 UTC
Udev-023-r1 will not create nvidia devices and only creates one alsa device: /dev/snd/controlC0. Found that have to manually run /sbin/udevstart to start X with nvidia and to create the other alsa devices. After that can startx and everything seems fine.

Noticed a new /etc/init.d/udev script. Tried adding it to boot runlevel (haven't rebooted with it as default runlevel yet) and it doesn't alleviate the problem. Not sure if are suppose to add it to a runlevel, cause when try to show status get: 'the udev device node directory exists'. Even after adding it.

Is udevstart suppose to be in a script somewhere, grepped a few obvious places and no results.

kernel: 2.6.3-rc1-mm1

This is not a udev issue. It is a nvida and alsa package issue.

There are already bugs opened on each of these individual packages for this issue.
