Description larry schuler 2004-03-29 05:52:12 UTC
Using yelp 2.4.2 (and 2.4.0) on an amd64. When trying to display help contents,
the "Loading..." message is displayed, but nothing is ever displayed.

I also get this error in /var/log/messages:

Reproducible: Always

don't assign bugs yourself if you don't know where they should go, let the wranglers handle them.

I've been unable to reproduce this on my system, compiled in 64bit mode. yelp works as expected. Also confirmed operational by several other users.

amd64 root # file /usr/libexec/yelp-db2html
/usr/libexec/yelp-db2html: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, AMD x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.4.1, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped

For reference, make.conf =

CFLAGS="-O2 -pipe"
CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu"
USE="acpi cjk cups dga dvd dvdr fbcon gphoto2 gstreamer innodb ipv6 java \
     mad multilib nogcj oav odbc samba sasl scanner slp theora usb vscan \
     --cups java --qt"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"

before I posted this bug, I asked the question to the amd64 mailing list, and at least two others were having similair problems. I just tried to rebuild it with -O2 CFLAGS, but that didn't help.

Maybe it is a 2.6.x kernel prob, my yelp-db2html is:

/usr/libexec/yelp-db2html: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, AMD x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.6.0, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped

I can't figure out why, but this is now working ok.

I have updated a few packages on my system, perhaps an updated library has fixed this. (I do notice strange highlighting in the windowing system on other apps though, so perhaps I just have a funky color problem.)

This bug can probably be closed.

re-open this bug if problems persist, i guess
