Description Stefan de Konink 2013-03-09 15:13:51 UTC
I rather would bug report this on upstream, but it seems the bugtracker is gone. Any pointers would be valuable.

I have uploaded my configuration using the alsa-info.sh script to:
http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=e57f3769a7e25a7672af704bfc3946a81dcb4338

The main problem: no expected analogue output being played. Everything from the cards output is noise. The mixer in that respect does work, it is possible to mute or change the noise volume.

Comment 5 Tom Wijsman (TomWij) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-04-16 16:54:15 UTC
Seems to be new firmware coming up:

http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel/1473322

If we look further, we also see it mentioned in some sound fixes; you can click through to them on the following link:

http://search.gmane.org/?query=ca0132&author=&group=gmane.linux.kernel&sort=date&DEFAULTOP=and&xP=Zca0132&xFILTERS=Glinux.kernel---A

Since the firmware is just a codec, it doesn't look promising; however, the sound fixes do look quite promising.

Could you try =sys-kernel/git-sources-3.9_rc7 to see if it is fixed there?
Comment 6 Stefan de Konink 2013-05-09 19:09:07 UTC
I have just tested the gentoo-sources 3.9.0. When I enable the new DSP code the DSP cannot be downloaded (and nothing is played out). When I disable the new DSP code the static noise returns.

I have tried the both the kernel firmware and the alsa-firmware-1.0.27.

Sadly from 3.8.2 => 3.9.0 the volume of the noise is *not* changed anymore with modification of the mixer.

Apart from

http://www.computersupportforums.com/showthread.php?tid=146353

I haven't seen anything about this; you could ask him if he progressed, hopefully the forum sends him a mail in that case.

You could test the latest kernels (latest gentoo-sources and git-sources); if not, please report this bug at https://bugzilla.kernel.org and leave us a link behind to the upstream bug.
Comment 8 Stefan de Konink 2013-07-04 13:14:11 UTC
I'm currently at 3.9.7, so I'm pretty sure nothing is changed in the mean time. Same error.

What I suspect is that in some Chromebook out there a Creative chipset is used which has exactly the same name (ca0132) but is clearly wired differently (or more likely has a different frontend) than this standalone PCI-e card.

A relevant thread has started at

http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel/1526376

but I'm not sure if that's attributable to your hardware / kernel / alsa.
Comment 10 Stefan de Konink 2013-07-17 16:29:17 UTC
This is an unrelated card, also I have analogue enabled.

Next to that: CONFIG_SND_HDA_CODEC_CA0132 should be enabled I think?
