Description Malte Starostik 2013-03-07 23:16:35 UTC
As described at $URL, 3.7 any locking operation including activation of clustered LVM VGs fails with "invalid argument".
This is fixed by d4b0bcf32b946590afd29e202d6a399b84fe6c67 in 3.8. Any chance for this to make it into genpatches for 3.7?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot a 3.7.* kernel on a system with sys-fs/lvm2[clvm]
2. start clvmd
3. vgchange -ay in the presence of clustered volume groups

Actual Results:
Activation of clustered volumes fails with Invalid argument

Applying http://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/patch/?id=d4b0bcf32b946590afd29e202d6a399b84fe6c67 fixes it.

Expected Results:
Activation should have succeeded

3.7 is EOL. Any consideration to going to a 3.8 kernel?
Comment 2 Malte Starostik 2013-04-02 22:22:13 UTC
Sorry, was that a general question to kernel@ or to me as reporter? In the latter case: sure, I just try to stick to stable on the affected servers and apparently there is no stable 3.8 version. If that was the question to the kernel team, sorry for the noise but +1 for getting 3.8 stable.
Comment 3 Mike Pagano gentoo-dev 2013-04-02 23:15:18 UTC
It was for you. I try not to ask myself questions. :)
Comment 4 Malte Starostik 2013-04-04 10:06:05 UTC
Makes sense :)

Well, went to 3.8.5 which fixes this issue as expected and generally seems to work fine so far, i.e. all VMs running on top of this cluster smoothly survived the migration. Thanks for your time!

If you wonder about this in the future, you can take a look at

http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/metastructure/herds/herds.xml

where you can find "kernel", you can see both of us listed under that.

Have fun with your working cluster. :)
