additional_info.zip

The problem occurs when I switched to terminal (Ctrl+Alt+F1) after starting of KDE (4.9.5) and I noticed that:

1. With gentoo-kernel-3.6.11 and ati-drivers-13.1 and 13.2_beta7 terminal resolution/refresh rate is fine.

2. With gentoo-kernel-3.7.10 (or early 3.7.9) and ati-drivers-13.1 there is also no problem.

3. But with gentoo-kernel-3.7.10 and ati-drivers-13.2_beta7 (and 13.2_beta3) terminal resolution/refrash rate corrups and terminal looks like bifurcated (see "screen.jpg" in attached archive "additional_info.zip")

attached "additional_info.zip" file contains:
1. "screen.jpg" -- screenshot of bifurcated terminal
2. "emerge --info" output
3. config-3.6.11-gentoo
4. config-3.7.10-gentoo

P.S.
x11-base/xorg-server-1.13.1
x11-base/xorg-x11-7.4-r2

There is not much that we can do about problems with ati-drivers, you will have to report this in their unofficial bug tracker at http://ati.cchtml.com/
Comment 2 Sergey Torokhov 2013-03-07 19:10:56 UTC
I try to report them too, but it seems rather strange for me that with gentoo-kernel-3.6.11 and teh same ati-drivers-13.2_beta7 problem doesn't exist.

Also I try to change (and remove) grub2 option for resolution option and check the result.
Comment 3 Tomáš Chvátal (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-03-08 11:08:46 UTC
@x11: actually easiest would be to just stabilise 13.1 release of ati-drivers.
Comment 4 Chí-Thanh Christopher Nguyễn gentoo-dev 2013-03-08 19:58:49 UTC
13.1 is already stable on amd64 and x86
Comment 5 Sergey Torokhov 2013-03-19 18:19:33 UTC
The same issue occurs with x11-drivers/ati-drivers-13.3_beta2

Changing of "/etc/default/grub" parameter GRUB_GFXMODE doesn't solve problem and at some settings resolution are corrupted more than early.
Comment 6 Sergey Torokhov 2013-03-19 18:38:21 UTC
The same issue was described on the unofficial bug tracker:

http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=740
Comment 7 Sergey Torokhov 2013-03-21 21:22:22 UTC
Bug 740 is duplication of http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=718 on ati bugzilla.

There some vga modes for (grub, grub2 etc.) kernel load settings for which issue doesn't observed. But with disabling of framebuffer (by setting "vga=normal") the TTY console becomes totally black (no screen output). So maybe this bug is related to framebuffer that is switching from fglrx to vesafb:

#hwinfo --framebuffer
02: None 00.0: 11001 VESA Framebuffer
...

See also "bug 718" (at ati bugzilla linked above) for more details.

ati-drivers is dead, and will not be supported for X.
