Description Dmitry Grigoriev 2013-03-02 23:47:28 UTC
I've got this in my /etc/fstab on a fresh (yesterday's) console gentoo installation:

IP:/export/portage  /usr/portage   nfs  fg,hard  0 0
IP:/export/work     /home/me/work  nfs  fg,hard  0 0

It does mount when I do:
# mount -a
immediately after system started. But not during system startup process. Nginx depends on second mount so it fails to start too.

For now I found this:

I temporarily changed ebegin messages in /etc/init.d/localmount and /etc/init.d/netmount to:

ebegin "Mounting local filesystems: $types $no_netdev"
ebegin "Mounting network filesystems: $fs"

And so I gen in /var/log/rc.log:

rc boot logging started at Sun Mar 3 03:22:27 2013
...
localmount                | * Mounting local filesystems: noproc,afs,cifs,coda,davfs,fuse,fuse.sshfs,gfs,glusterfs,lustre,ncpfs,nfs,nfs4,ocfs2,shfs,smbfs,nfs,nfs4 -O no_netdev ...
...
net.eth0                  | * Bringing up interface eth0
...
rc boot logging stopped at Sun Mar 3 03:22:30 2013
rc default logging started at Sun Mar 3 03:22:30 2013
netmount                  | * Mounting network filesystems: afs,cifs,coda,davfs,fuse,fuse.sshfs,gfs,glusterfs,lustre,ncpfs,ocfs2,shfs,smbfs ...
...
nginx |nginx: [emerg] open() "/home/me/work/.../nginx.inc.conf" failed (2: No such file or directory) in /etc/nginx/nginx.conf:68
...

So here we see that system treats nfs & nfs4 as local filesystems and tries to mount them before network is up. Adding extra_net_fs_list="nfs nfs4" to /etc/rc.conf didn't change anything. More, /etc/init.d/netmount explicitly excludes nfs and nfs4 from list:

	for x in $net_fs_list $extra_net_fs_list; do
		case "$x" in
			nfs|nfs4)
			continue
			;;
		esac
		fs="$fs${fs:+,}$x"
	done

'bg' nfs mount option didn't help either. And it should not: system is pretty lightweight and it comes to loading nginx in a moments after mounts.

Do you have the proper init scripts from nfs-utils added to your
runlevels? If you do not,nfs mounts will not work.

Please check that and report back.

Thanks,

William

// Damn, there's another nfsmount in init.d! %-|
Ok, my bad, adding nfsmount to default runlevel solved the issue. Sorry to disturb you.

No problem. :-)

The reason for the "invalid" resolution is that there wasn't anything
for us to fix.
