cat /proc/cpuinfo shows only one processor, even though multiple cpus (pentium 3 katmai - 512k cache) are available and booted with the smp kernel.

This is on a compaq proliant 3000R server

Solution was to enter the bios and set Operating system to UNIX -> UNIXWARE 7, switch APIC mode to fully mapped.

Kernel detected two processors just fine. Seems that this feature was introduced into the kernel right after the 1.4 cds were build.
