Description Benjamin Schindler 2013-02-26 11:45:27 UTC
On one machine (doesn't happen on the other), thunderbird refuses to start.

When I launch it on the console, I get this:

bschindl@hundertwasser ~ $ thunderbird
XPCOMGlueLoad error for file /usr/lib64/thunderbird/libxpcom.so:
libxul.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Couldn't load XPCOM.

as a temporary workaround, I start thunderbird with:
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib64/thunderbird thunderbird

that works just fine

No emerge --info nothing, how do you expect to receive help when you have not provided the basic information that would be required in order for us to duplicate your build enviroment?

Yes, I'm sorry about that, completely forgot:

Well how about some ldd outputs for the respective libraries..?
Comment 4 Benjamin Schindler 2013-06-15 11:11:50 UTC
Okay, so thunderbird itself:

ldd /usr/binthunderbird
        linux-vdso.so.1 (0x00007ffffa7ff000)
        libpthread.so.0 => /lib64/libpthread.so.0 (0x00007fec5abb3000)
        libdl.so.2 => /lib64/libdl.so.2 (0x00007fec5a9af000)
        libm.so.6 => /lib64/libm.so.6 (0x00007fec5a6ba000)
        libstdc++.so.6 => /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.6.4/libstdc++.so.6 (0x00007fec5a3b6000)
        libc.so.6 => /lib64/libc.so.6 (0x00007fec5a00e000)
        /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x00007fec5add0000)
        libgcc_s.so.1 => /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.6.4/libgcc_s.so.1 (0x00007fec59df8000)

bschindl@hundertwasser /usr/lib64/thunderbird $ ldd libxpcom.so
        linux-vdso.so.1 (0x00007fff64b4d000)
        libpthread.so.0 => /lib64/libpthread.so.0 (0x00007fe701895000)
        libxul.so => not found
        libc.so.6 => /lib64/libc.so.6 (0x00007fe7014ec000)
        /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x00007fe701cf7000)

So libxul.so is missing. However,

bschindl@hundertwasser /usr/lib64/thunderbird $ ls -l libxul.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 37931160 May 21 12:47 libxul.so

In other words (as described in my initial post), thunderbird logically works when setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH manually. For some reason, on that machine only, the library path isn't set as its supposed to. What I don't understand - why does it actually find libxpcom, but then its unable to find libxul?
Comment 5 Benjamin Schindler 2013-06-15 12:23:12 UTC
I should add - I have rebuilt thunderbird a number of times in the meantime. Also, revdep-rebuild, emerge @preserved-rebuild was run multiple times. So linking consistency is at least considered fine on that system.

The LD_LIBRARY_PATH is setup via thunderbird when executed, you should refer to run-mozilla.sh for further debugging.

I ran into this when my dev-libs/icu was out of date compared to my build box. So def. check your "downstream" libraries with ldd.

While I'm not sure what you mean with out-of-date compared to the build (thunderbird?), I have the impression this is not the case.

Both version are latest stable:

[ebuild   R    ] dev-libs/icu-51.1:0/51.1
[ebuild   R    ] mail-client/thunderbird-17.0.6

So guess I have to dig into the run-mozilla.sh script. I'm not very good at bash scripting, but lets see
Comment 9 Leho Kraav (:macmaN @lkraav) 2013-06-20 09:51:53 UTC
I build my binaries on a server and run binpkgs on my laptop. Server sometimes has more up to date packages it builds against and when laptop hasn't been updated for such dependencies, exactly this subject type of stuff happens.
