Description Michael Mol 2013-02-25 22:57:28 UTC
dev-libs/openssl explicitly depends on app-crypt/mit-krb5 instead of virtual/kerberos. This results in blocks when trying to emerge with system-wide USE='kerberos', given that some packages (i.e. net-fs/samba-4.0.3) carry explicit dependencies on app-crypt/heimdal.

Is this something that can be fixed, or is dev-libs/openssl incompatible with app-crypt/heimdal?

  16 Nov 2007; Doug Goldstein <cardoe@gentoo.org> openssl-0.9.8g.ebuild:
change depend to mit-krb5 since openssl's Configure script specifically
states they don't support building against heimdal and it will break. Which
results in a die during the ebuild

this is the sort of thing you should investigate and let us know about if things have improved. typically non-kerberos people don't care about kerberos and can't be bothered to wade into the mit vs heimdal crap.
