Description Sander Rijken 2004-03-26 11:43:12 UTC
I was running X, on a 2.6.4-r1 kernel with PREEMPT (I know its not stable, but perhaps this can help it make better)
Suddenly my screen went black with reddish artifact like things.
I then ssh-ed into my box, and looked at dmesg to see what could be wrong. The relevant dmesg output is attached

Reproducible: Didn't try
Steps to Reproduce:

will you attach 'emerge info' and relevent info on apps running before crash.

From your attachment :
bttv0: skipped frame. no signal? high

Is that for bttv video capture driver?
Comment 3 Sander Rijken 2004-03-27 00:24:56 UTC
It is indeed a bttv 878 card. I don't think it has anything to do about it though. It looks more like nvidia-kernel that went wrong.
I had tvtime, evolution and couple of aterms running, nothing too exciting. I was also running mozilla, which has had a few crashes before this happened.

I've had reports that the nvidia-kernel is much more stable when used with kernel >=2.6.5... Please test with that kernel and let me know if your problem still exists.

Preempt and a binary-only driver... Can't help ya here.
