I have configured 2 pop adresses, one of them with "check for new messages every 10 minutes". After about half a day, this doesn't seem to work anymore. Pressing the "Get Msgs" button also doesn't do anything, also no "Connecting to ...." below in the status bar what I normally do see when pressing that button. After closing doen mozilla completely (mail and browsers) and restarting mozilla and pressing the "Get Msgs" button, the mail comes in. This also happened to me with mozilla 1.4-r3 on alpha and now on AMD Athlon XP with mozilla 1.6-r1 it's exactly the same! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. start mozilla mail 2. configure one pop-address to "check for new messages every 10 minutes" 3. let it run half a day, maybe longer 4. press the "Get Msgs" button Actual Results: No messages coming in and nothing in the status bar Expected Results: Messages should come in or at least the status bar should show something Gentoo Base System version 1.4.3.13 Portage 2.0.50-r1 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.3.2, glibc-2.3.2-r9, 2.4.25) ================================================================= System uname: 2.4.25 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2600+ distcc 2.12.1 i686-pc-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [disabled] ccache version 2.3 [enabled] Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.58-r1 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.7.7 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="gcc3" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -pipe" FEATURES="autoaddcvs buildpkg ccache sandbox" MAKEOPTS="-j2" USE="X apm arts avi berkdb bonobo cdr crypt cups directfb encode esd foomaticdb gdbm gif gnome gpm gtk gtk2 imlib java jpeg ldap libg++ libwww mad mikmod motif mozilla mpeg mysql ncurses oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl png python quicktime readline ruby sdl slang ssl svga tcpd truetype x86 xml2 xmms xv zlib"
I'd like to add, I started mozilla today at 11:37: evert 17284 1 0 11:37 ? 00:00:36 /usr/lib/mozilla/mozilla-bin and now at 14:25 (3 hours later) the "Get Msgs" button already doesn't do anything anymore. However, the account which is configured not to check messages within a time interval still *does* function!
Evert, you seem to have a talent for finding these problems :-) Have you tried mozilla-1.7_alpha or beta? I don't use mozilla for my mail so it's hard for me to investigate quickly.
No, I haven't tried 1.7_whatever, and I'm just told I shouldn't mix stable and unstable and try to go stable further (see http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47084 ). So what am I supposed to do if portage can't handle a mix of stable and unstable?
I don't know how, but the problem seems to have gone away, so this one can be closed...
Evert, that is really good news, since I'm afraid I wasn't being very helpful...
