After a fair amount of searching I came to the old CVS repository for the gentoo-menu system code that was abandoned some months ago. Since the main source of information is GLEP 16 for anyone who comes around, they are probably going to need this link so they can see the code that has already been developed for it. I wonder why this project died. http://www.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/gentoo-menu/?cvsroot=gentoo-src I'd like to do the job, but its gonna take me some time to understand the code.
Sorry -- what exactly is this bug about? What problem needs to be fixed?
Please add the link to GLEP 16.
Grant -- I'll pass this one along to you since you manage the GLEP stuff.
Lanius, Any comments about posting a link to your code in the GLEP? Mr. Wagner, Thanks for your interest! You should know that it's quite possible that one of the reasons this project is moribund is because no real decision was ever reached about whether or not implementing this GLEP would be a good thing. You might want to talk to the folks mentioned at http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/research/index.xml to see what is currently being planned (if anything) about a menu structure.
We decided not to write another wrapper around the menu spec in python (which is gentoo-menu) but implement it natively using desktop-file-utils (desktop-file-utils.freedesktop.org). If you want to help, you could try to implement the menu-structure in fluxbox or icewm using desktop-file-utils.
