I got a technical curiosity. Why is it necessary the minimal KDE version to be 4.10? Wasn't digikam-3.0.0 developed when 4.10 hadn't been released yet?

The code which will later become the 4.10 public release is already in git/svn for quite some time.

The digikam guys also develop part of kdegraphics (in particular, libkexif2, libkdcraw, libkipi, ...). It was never possible to compile digikam core against KDE 4.9.
