The package hsflinmodem does not work with kernel 2.6, complains about the preemtive option in my kernel 2.6.4-gentoo Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
In email to the Linuxant people I got this reply: Hi, we no longer support this beta driver. Please upgrade to the new, non beta, driver available at http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hsf/downloads-license.php Please let us know if you require more assistance. Regards, Jonathan Technical specialist / Linuxant www.linuxant.com support@linuxant.com
hsflinmodem drivers >= 6.0 are limited to 14.4 speed and the FAX functionality is disabled, until you pay about 15$ protection to conexant / linuxants web shop to get a license key. I'd say selling modem hardware with closed specifications, and then letting users pay for the drivers is about the same as selling water in a desert region, which had been poisoned, and then charging people again for the antidote. especially since older versions of the drivers didnt have the restricted functionality. if i could I'd make them pay for this, someone gotta reverse engeneer the driver that comes with windows to get around the license or something - or distribute that from an origin where conexants license restrictions dont apply.
As I understand it, the people making the driver for linux aren't the same people who made the modem; so the people selling the antidote aren't the same people who poisoned the water.
Created attachment 40248 [details] hsfmodem-6.03.00.04082400.ebuild Ebuild for the latest full version of Linuxant's driver. I have renamed the package because Linuxant choosed to rename their tarball.

thx, commited but still under the old name
Created attachment 47852 [details] Ebuild for current hsfmodem version As I had no success compiling any of the older hsfmodem ebuilds, I recently did an ebuild for the most recent 7.18.00.02 version. It compiles and installs without any problems on my system.
