Description Alexandr Gluzskiy 2013-01-31 08:35:11 UTC
i was unable to get work xeorx workcentre 6015b

related:

http://www.cups.org/search.php?Q=workcentre

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/984424

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install cups
2. download and place in right locations content of one of packages from http://www.support.xerox.com/support/workcentre-6015/downloads/enus.html?operatingSystem=linux&fileLanguage=en
3. print color page
Actual Results:
wrong colors, and image looks like damaged, not only colors, but it looks like very low resolution

Expected Results:
printed page with normal colors and normal image quality

i have talked with xerox support and they said me to run supported linux distribution (old ubuntu, commercial red hat or suse)

i also have made bugreport on cups.org, they said that it driver or third party library bug

i also checked all available versions of cups (including 1.4.8), but i think roblem may be in 32bit library of cups from emul-linux* package, xerox driver contains 32bit cups filter linked with 32bit libraries

Let me clarify things: are you talking about software(ppd drivers in this case), that does not present in portage tree yet?

I guess you could test net-print/xerox-drivers or net-print/foomatic-db-ppds. Other than that, there is nothing we can do if you can't pinpoint the compatibility problem and get it fixed in the packages Gentoo does support.

Ubuntu has a similar bug report for this printer, though, apparently using an open source PPD.
Comment 3 Alexandr Gluzskiy 2013-02-01 20:56:41 UTC
yes, it's not in portage.

unfortunately this printer using binary filter which is not available in any opensource printing drivers, so only way is to try to use driver provided by xerox, if not possible to add it to portage, please at least help me found way to workaraound this problem., i just can't solve it myself.

Adding this to Portage won't fix your problem, and adding something which is broken isn't attractive either. Please try the suggested things first:

Comment 5 Alexandr Gluzskiy 2013-02-05 00:24:27 UTC
as i said it using binary filter, i checked gutenprint, foomatic and xerox-drivers with no success.
by adding to portage i was mean adding package which WORKS and not this broken deb packages
