I know the devmanual mention ECHANGELOG_USER but i guess this page [2] is the first help for who does the first commit, so I'd say we can mention the variable and how/where to set it. [1]: http://devmanual.gentoo.org/tools-reference/echangelog/index.html [2]: http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/devrel/handbook/handbook.xml?part=1&chap=4
I'd say we need to focus on moving the rest of the handbook to devmanual instead of trying to keep it up2date. Hence reassigning this to devmanual and changed the title as appropriate
Adding the blocker to make sure we fix all the issues on this page *before* (or while) someone copies it to the devmanual.
Hmmm.. two things have happened in the meantime. 1. The handbook page is no longer there. 2. We've finally set a date for the git transition. Afterwards, there will be no ChangeLogs and thus no echangelog. It would still be beneficial to have a "walk-through of a version bump" in the devmanual, but I don't think there's any value in trying to copy and update the old handbook page any more. It makes more sense to wait for git and then adapt e.g. https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Gentoo_git_workflow#common_ebuild_work.
Should we close this, or change the summary? It might still be nice to have a simple example in the devmanual, but it's all there on the wiki anyway. The original topic of this bug is long obsolete.
Once we have a GLEP 66, we can document the workflow. as-is this bug is obsolete now. closing.
