Description Markus Hauschild 2013-01-28 18:33:41 UTC
At least the hardened version of the current (20130124) stage3 comes without udev-mount in sysinit. If you follow the install guide you will end up with a system that does not have udev-mount in sysinit and therefore won't mount /dev/shm and /dev/pts which causes all kinds of problems.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot from install-amd64-minimal-20130110.iso
2. Follow the handbook/quick install guide using stage3-hardened-20130124.tar.bz2
3. Reboot your system
Actual Results:
Errors about not being able to mount /dev/shm and /dev/pts.

Expected Results:
The fresh system booting up fine.

This was caused by an issue with udev-init-scripts not having build on IUSE[1].
Due to a few issues with relying on USE="build", a different solution is going to be tested[2].
The broken stages were dropped from the mirrors.
