Description simon 2013-01-27 13:13:26 UTC
According to http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=faq&cat=ts3server#ts3server_instancecheckerror the server uses /dev/shm to ensure only a single instance is running if no license is used.
While this worked with tmpfs it seems to be broken with devtmpfs (suggested by 2013-01-23-udev-upgrade).

Log entry after start:
2013-01-27 13:02:49.936616|ERROR |ServerLibPriv | | Server() error while starting servermanager, error: instance check error

If one changes back to tmpfs on /dev/shm the server starts fine.
As i don't know the details if this is can be handled by startup script/permissions etc. or needs a fix from upstream i hope this is a good place for this information.

Starting as root user also works (but is of course not the solution).

-> RESO INVALID, here's why:

the news item is talking about /dev. thats *only* /dev not for example /dev/shm
having /dev/shm not in fstab at all is also fine these days (i at least can't renember having it in lately)

so having shm mounted as tmpfs is the right option.
