gnome-mplayer refuses to exit and simply restarts playing the movie on quit.

None of the methods for exiting gnome-mplayer works. I tried closing the window, pressing q, and using the menu and selecting quit.
The end result is the same in all cases, the player just restarts playing.

Note that I am using xfce.

transient error, resolved after restarting dbus.
