Current description: "MariaDB is a MySQL fork with 3rd-party patches and additional storage engines merged." IMO, this sounds somewhat negative. I propose "MariaDB is a MySQL fork by the original developers after the acquisition by Oracle, suitable as a drop-in replacement."
I don't see anything negative. That said, the website says "An enhanced, drop-in replacement for MySQL".
"third-party" implies that it is not supported.
(In reply to comment #2) > "third-party" implies that it is not supported. I don't see how the description is "negative" to the product. The "third-party" in the description, means that mariadb integrates patches developed by others - such as percona. In any case, how about "MariaDB is a MySQL fork created by the original developers, including community patches and new storage engines and meant as as a drop-in replacement." I don't see any need to mention the aquisition by Oracle.
Using upstream name now.
