"7. Configuring the Kernel" --> much more troubles There might an error, because I found a difference between the docs of the LiveCD and the on-line docs (a take a look on the english, the french and the german one) on the LiveCD I found: 7.b. Installing the Sources # emerge vanilla-sources on the on-line-docs: 7.b. Installing the Sources # emerge =vanilla-sources-2.4.24 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual Results: Following the instructions from the LiveCD AND having NO Internet connection I get: >>> emerge (2 of 2) sys-kernel/vanilla-sources-2.4.25 to / >>> Downloading http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu/distfiles/linux-2.4.25.tar.bz2 --18:36:57-- http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu/distfiles/linux-2.4.25.tar.bz2 => `/usr/portage/distfiles/linux-2.4.25.tar.bz2' Resolving gentoo.oregonstate.edu... failed: Temporary failure in name resolution.
The online docs are "living". Changes might be applied to them when something seems to be unclear to a lot of users which of course isn't possible on an already released CD
I am working with Unix since 20 years, with Linux only 10 years but I am a very beginner with "gentoo". So I follow the instructions, letter after letter!... So, I think it should be *very* better to get a very good install- instruction on the LiveCD, so I tell you, where I got some troubles as a beginner.
I hope you believe me when I say that we *really* aim to have fully correct and functional documentation on the LiveCD. However, as already mentioned, the instructions change quite a lot. The complete history of changes propagated into the handbook is summed up at http://www.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/xml/htdocs/doc/en/handbook/handbook.xml?root=gentoo&sortby=date
