Please make a note about starting up and running /etc/init.d/famd for gnome. Reason being, I was following the guide and used BreakMyGentoo's ebuilds to install Gnome-2.6-rc1 and couldn't figure out why I had to log out and back in for my menus to be updated. Of course you could put a message in the ebuild. However, many people emerge programs such as these overnight and may have other things merge directly after gnome. EX: `emerge gnome openoffice xmms` -- that way the message to start the service would be lost. I believe a note in the documentation would be good for users and trivial to add. I'm not sure if this applies to KDE as well, perhaps the KDE developer (caleb?) could tell you... Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Thanks. I've applied this information to the draft "Configuring a Gentoo Desktop". http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/draft/desktop.xml?part=1&chap=3
