Description dieter ferdinand 2013-01-20 13:46:08 UTC
hello,
every time, i update one of the gentoo-systems, i have installed, i have problems with some packages.

i can solve the most problems, but every time the same problems, is not good.

to update qt4 and kde, i must always unmerge all packages from qt4 und kde and some other packages because this packages are blocked for update while packages are installed, which use already the old version of qt4 and/or kde-libs.

if i unmerge all blocking packages and install them again, i have the new versions installed, but this makes every time more work.

after unmerging kde on one of the systems and run emerge -vuaDN world, kde is installed again, but not the new version 4.9.3, the version 4.8.1 is merged and i don't know why.
installed before was 4.7.x.

i don't install kde on the most systems, because i have no local display and use tightvnc as X-Server, but only kde 3.5(3.x?) works with this server, all never versions >4.0 don't work with the tightvnc-server correctly.

because the big updates break to often on some systems, i use an own script, which update all packages, which can updated and after this, i try to update the rest with emerge and if there are already some problems, i try to solve it. but at the most time, there are only less then 10 packages, which makes problems which can solved with unmerge und remerge it again or merge some missing packages.
after so a big updated, i already run revdep-rebuild, the clean the system from the last old libs, which used by some programs, but not installed at this time.

i hope, you find out, how it is possible, to update qt4 and kde without unmerge all this packages before it is possible to merge the new versions.

i use a new system with an amd 8-core cpu, but i see, that emerge don't install the max amount of parallel installing packages allowed (-j10 or -j20 on this system). it seems, the most time only one or two runnung ebuilds. so i need much more time for the update. i don't think, that all of the rest packages need this one, which is merged at this moment.
somtimes, if i stop emerge and start it again, there will be more packages merge parallel as before.

if i find some other problems, i will list it here.
one happens at the last minutes:
app-text/libspectre-0.2.7 should be merged, but this lib need an other lib be updated/installed before:
You need libgs >= 8.62 in order to compile libspectre
i think, there is a bug in the depencies for libspectre or a bug in the configuration of libspectre.
i think, libgs comes with ghostscript, but the version 9.x is installed. so it must be a bug in the configuration for libspectre.

goodby

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
update a system with old qt4 or kde libs
