In the section describing installing the lilo, code listing 11 contains an error in its example lilo.conf file. Current: delay=50 # Wait 5 (five) seconds before booting the default section Should Be: timeout=50 # Wait 5 (five) seconds before booting the default section Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
It all depends on what you want to achieve :) The "delay" will have LILO wait 5 seconds before continuing the default boot sequence, as does the "timeout". The only difference is that "delay" will delay the LILO bootprompt earlier (early stage) while waiting for the user to press shift (iirc) to show the LILO menu. "timeout" will first show the LILO menu and then wait. The net result is however the same.
I have tested this and verified that setting delay=50 does not actually do anything. The prompt screen is displayed with no delay and you must manually select your boot choice. I am using lilo 22.5.8 I have attached my lilo.conf file.
Created attachment 27605 [details] Example lilo.conf
In that case I've updated the docs to use timeout.
Forgot to mark this one as fixed, sorry
