Comment 3 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2013-01-08 14:48:10 UTC
go into the build dir:
 /var/tmp/portage/net-misc/ntp-4.2.6_p5-r2/work/ntp-4.2.6p5/ntpd4.2.6p5/ntpd

and attach the files:
 ../scripts/mkver
 ../version

then run by hand and see if it fails:
 env CSET=`cat ../version` ../scripts/mkver ntpd

Comment 7 Martin Bays 2013-01-08 16:04:50 UTC
Oh oh... not sure what's going on exactly, but the text in ../version comes from one of my own personal scripts (called 'bk' and in global path), so this is probably all my fault
Comment 8 Martin Bays 2013-01-08 16:07:35 UTC
Not sure why it would be picking it up, though... the script is in /usr/local/bin, and portage's PATH is
/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/opt/bin:/usr/qt/3/bin
Comment 9 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2013-01-08 16:46:22 UTC
"bk" is the short name for "bitkeeper" which ntp supports

i'd suggest you tweak your local bk to exit(1) when given invalid args as that'll should cause the ntp logic to skip it
Comment 10 Martin Bays 2013-01-08 17:20:38 UTC
I just renamed my 'bk' script, haven't used it for years anyway. Arguably the makefile ought to check that bk
really is bitkeeper.

Anyway, thanks for the help with diagnosing.
Comment 11 Martin Bays 2013-01-08 18:01:42 UTC
To confirm: it does now merge cleanly.
