Acroread that's currently in portage does not work for me. Here's the output I'm getting when trying to open any pdf file:

dirname: missing operand
Try 'dirname --help' for more information.
/opt/bin/acroread: line 22: /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/bin/acroread: cannot execute binary file
/opt/bin/acroread: line 22: /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/bin/acroread: Success

The most disappointing part that there isn't any older version of that package in portage, so I'm stuck with being unable to open any pdf. I'm sorry if that's been discussed before, but couldn't some more older versions be kept in portage? It's not the first time I wish I could just downgrade some package but it's not in portage anymore.

PS. AFAIR dirname error was there back when it was working so it's probably not related with this issue.

Have you by any chance changed your kernel since acroread last worked?
I'm asking because the error message looks like you might be missing 32bit emulation in the kernel. Look for "CONFIG_IA32_EMULATION=y" in your kernel configuration.

That's it. Thanks a lot. I'm not quite sure how did that happen, since I was using "make oldconfig", but maybe I missed something. Sorry for the trouble.
